Step 1 - Visit eBay Pulse

You may or may not have heard of eBay Pulse before, but it's a great way of working out what's the biggest selling item on eBay. When you open the website for the first time you will be presented with a list of the top ten most popular searches, giving you an instant identification as to what the best selling products are. However, as is often the case in a highly competitive market such as eBay, you are likely to find that these ten products are in areas where many sellers compete for the attention of the buyers.

Step 2 - Research different categories

Above the list of the top ten popular searches, you will find a drop down list of the different categories available on eBay. Open this list and start to browse around for a category of interest to you. When you click on an option the popular searches section will update, showing only the most popular searches for that particular category. And what's more, you can open the category drop down list again to jump into sub-categories. This will really help you to identify niche markets that are popular.

Step 3 - Discover the sales potential

Once you have found a keyword that you are interested in, click on it to be taken to eBay itself and all of the results found when searching for that particular phrase. If you are logged in to your eBay account you should see an option called 'Completed Listings' in the 'Show only' section of the left hand navigation bar. Click this option and you will see all recently completed auctions for your particular key phrase. Prices in green represent items that have sold, while those in red are those items that haven't sold.
